MER Clinic: The late Great Virginian Railway (Still going strong)

Presented by Tom Salmon @ MER Suffolk 2012

Tom will discuss the Virginian Railway, the last of the great trunk lines. It was completed in 1909 and was one of the most profitable American railroads. Financed by one man, it hauled the heaviest loads behind some of the world s most powerful locomotives. In 1959 it merged with rival Norfolk and Western. Today, it still hauls the bulk of Norfolk Southerns Norfolk bound coal through Suffolk.
